Michael Jospe MA, PCC

michaelThe Earth-Based Institute is owned and operated by Michael Jospé. As a professional coach, educator and wilderness guide, Michael is passionate about helping people learn about themselves while being out in nature. Michael has a BA in Outdoor Recreation Leadership through Western State College in Colorado, an MA in Transformational Learning through Prescott College in Arizona, a certificate in Gestalt Psychology through the Boulder Psychotherapy Institute, and a certificate in Evidence-Based Coaching through Fielding Graduate Institute. Michael is also certified as a Professional Coach through the International Coach Federation and as Wilderness First Responder through Wilderness Medicine Institute. In addition, Michael’s approach to working with people has been greatly influenced by his studies under authors and educators, Tom Brown, Jr. and Jon Young, and gestalt therapist, Dr. Roger Strachan.

Michael believes that each person has a unique purpose in life, a purpose that is important to the health and balance of our society, as well as the environment. EBI was created as a venue for people to enhance their lives by working through the beliefs and patterns that get in the way of following dreams and living a life of passion and meaning. Michael has been coaching others, guiding people into the wilderness, and teaching students to be outdoor leaders and guides for over a decade. Michael loves to mountain bike, backpack, and backcountry ski. He lives in Boulder with his wife, two sons, and way too many pets.

Derek Schmidt, MA, LPC

Derek is the Owner, Founder and Clinical Director of Reach, Inc., a therapeutic counseling agency in Denver, Colorado.  Derek holds a Masters Degree in Transpersonal Counseling Psychology and is licensed as an LPC in Colorado.  In addition, Derek is Certified in Equine-Assisted Psychotherapy, Gestalt Therapy, and Wilderness Emergency Medicine (WFR).  Derek has over 15 years experience as a therapist and facilitator combining his passion for wilderness, adventure, and self-exploration while assisting individuals in creating powerful, illuminating experiences.

Erin Tanner Jospé, MA, LPC

Erin is a licensed professional counselor and has been in the field of psychology and stress reduction since 1998. She has been teaching yoga and has been a body worker for over a decade in both Los Angeles, California and Boulder, Colorado. She has received an MA in Movement Education/Dance Therapy from UCLA and Counseling Psychology from Naropa University. Over the last twelve years, Erin has worked with youth as a social and emotional learning facilitator and was the school counselor for The Watershed School in Boulder. Currently, she has a private practice specializing in Somatic and Equine-Assisted Psychotherapy, and supervises interns in Play Therapy. She also facilitates Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction classes for members of the community in the Boulder/Denver area. She is also a new mom.

Katie Asmus, MA, LPC, BMP, is a Counselor, Life Coach, Educator, Mentor , Workshop Facilitator, and founder of NamastéHealing Arts Center, LLC, a multi-dimensional therapeutic and educationally-based organization incorporating Wilderness and Body-Centered Psychotherapies. Katie began working in the field of outdoor experiential education in 1991, and during her Master Degree studies in Somatic Psychotherapy: Dance Movement Therapy she soon discovered opportunities to bridge the fields of Somatic and Wilderness Therapies, culminating in writing her MA thesis on Teaching Outdoor Adventure Educators to Recognize and work with Emotional Trauma through Body-centered Interventions. For the past 13 years, she has continued offering Somatic Trauma training in a variety of contexts around the world. Katie became involved in Naropa University’s MA Wilderness Therapy program at its onset, acting in the role of Assistant Director until 2008, and has continued teaching classes as an adjunct faculty member through the present day. In addition, Katie has trained hundreds of students, therapists, educators and life coaches to collaborate with the natural world through her affiliations with AEE, TAPG, Prescott College, Peak Experience, Earth-based Institute, Outdoor Leadership Training Seminars, and her own organization, Namaste Healing Arts.

Throughout her career, Katie has led hundreds of experiential wilderness and Nature-based programs from a few hours up to 30 days in length through such organizations as: The American Youth Foundation, Outward Bound, The Women’s Wilderness Institute, YMCA, Life Renewal Journeys, Family Quest of Colorado, The Naropa University, Peak Experience, Earth Based Institute, Outdoor Leadership Training Seminars, and of course, Namaste Healing Arts. Katie is an avid learner, creator, manifestor and lover of life! One of her main passions is supporting others in tapping into their own innate wisdom and connection to the natural world in support of greater health and healing on the planet.

Rob Meltzer, MA, CEP

Rob Meltzer, MA, CEP

Rob Meltzer, M.A., is the founder and director of Northlight Family Services - a national Educational Consulting firm. Rob is a therapist, certified educational planner, and a full member in good standing of the Independent Educational Consultant Association (IECA). He is a certified gestalt and expressive therapist and has completed 400 hours of training with the Southwest Association of Gestalt and Expressive Studies. Rob has been a teacher, university professor, school principal, wilderness program director, and therapist. He played a key role in the formation of the Wilderness Therapy Program at Naropa University and he started the Wilderness Therapy Symposium. He holds a B.A. in Natural Sciences from the University of Vermont and a Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology from Prescott College. Rob enjoys teaching and guiding in Nature. He helps people listen closely to what is important and then helps them build their lives according to what they hear.
