Somatic Trauma Prevention and Intervention Skills

June 23-25, 2012

People come to programs with past experiences that impact their abilities to be present, focused and in relationship with themselves, others and the natural world. Trauma can be looked at on a spectrum and is defined as a highly stressful experience not fully integrated which creates ongoing stress and effects one’s ability to be present in the moment. For many people the natural world can be a healing place, while for others the unfamiliarity or unknown can trigger a sense of fear, and can heighten stress and trauma.

Throughout this course you will learn about the physiology of trauma and how to help people move through stressful situations and ultimately understand what interventions are helpful vs. harmful. You will learn body-centered and nature based interventions to help people come into the present moment, become grounded in their bodies and ultimately restore safety, choice, presence and a sense of power. This course will include both theory and experiential processes.
